It’s time! Every two years, our incumbent and aspiring political leaders ask for our support, or for our continued support, to keep their jobs. It’s important that we remember, and remind them, that politics is a two way street. We support those that support us.
Firearms ownership on Guam has had a tough year. The Stand Your Ground Bill, introduced by Senator Joe San Agustin during the 34th Guam Legislature as Bill 149-34 and then reintroduced in the 35th Guam Legislature as Bill 47-35 has been sitting on Senator Therese Terlaje’s desk and has not gone anywhere since.
We thought we’d contact each candidate and get their answers to a couple of questions that are important to firearms owners. Please note that we did not settle for answers from any of the candidates assistants. We tried to ensure that we spoke directly to each candidate. For the most part, we were able to connect with most of the candidates. However, there were a few that outright refused to respond.
To be fair, each candidate we were able to contact was asked the same questions. Those questions were:
-
-
- Do you support the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution?
- If elected, will you support a Stand Your Ground Bill like Bill 47-35?
-
Although not related to the right to own firearms, since we had the candidate’s attention, we thought we’d as another freedom of choice question. That question was:
-
-
- Are you pro-life or pro-choice (concerning abortion rights)?
-
The spreadsheet below is a summary of their answers.
